Comfort and Dignity at Home in the Final Stages of Life

Hospice Services

At Sierra Hospice, our mission is to provide compassionate and comprehensive hospice care, guided by the dedication of our volunteers and staff.

Hospice care is a philosophy, not confined to a specific location. It can be delivered at home or in facilities like nursing homes and hospitals, wherever it best meets the needs of the patient.

Our hospice care team is made up of dedicated Sierra Hospice employees and trained patient care volunteers. Together, they work closely with patients, caregivers, and family members to provide the emotional and spiritual support needed during this meaningful time.

Serving the Chester, Lake Almanor, Canyon Dam, Greenville, and Westwood areas, we offer a wide range of programs to address the physical, emotional, spiritual, and social needs of terminally ill patients and their loved ones.

A hospice team member visits regularly, and someone is always available by phone. It’s crucial to understand that ceasing treatment aimed at curing an illness does not mean stopping all care. For instance, if a patient with cancer transitions to hospice care after chemotherapy proves ineffective, the chemotherapy will end — but the care does not.

While Sierra Hospice provides extensive support, the day-to-day care of a terminally ill person at home is typically provided by family and friends. Our hospice team trains family members on how to care for their loved ones and offers respite care when caregivers need a much-needed break.

From hospice care to grief support, our staff and volunteers are honored to walk alongside families through every stage of terminal illness and bereavement.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What is hospice care, and how is it different from other types of care?

Hospice care is dedicated to offering comfort and support to patients with terminal illnesses, prioritizing quality of life over curative treatments. It involves delivering emotional and spiritual care to patients and their families, ensuring comprehensive support that addresses both psychological and spiritual needs — including after the loss of a loved one.

How does hospice work?

Individuals are referred to hospice by their doctor. You don’t have to wait until your physician brings up hospice. You can take the initiative by beginning the discussion with your doctor, or you can request an evaluation directly from a hospice program at any time. If you would like more information to help you decide, you can call Sierra Hospice to begin the conversation.

What are the costs associated with your hospice care services?

Sierra Hospice is proud to offer all of our services completely free of charge to our patients and their families.

Can hospice care be provided at home, in a hospital, or in a specialized facility?

Sierra Hospice’s care services are exclusively provided in the comfort of patients’ homes, ensuring personalized and compassionate support in a familiar and supportive environment.
